Elekeiroz is a signatory to the Responsible Care Program, which is carried out worldwide by the International Council of Chemical Associations, and has been conducted in Brazil by the Brazilian Association of Chemical Industries (ABIQUIM) since it was first implemented in 1992. The program is designed to comprehensively address Safety, Health and Environmental issues in the petrochemical industry, and has now incorporated such themes as Social Responsibility, Quality and Corporate Protection.
Elekeiroz's environmental management system is in line with the Responsible Care Program's Environmental Protection Code and the Itaúsa Group's Environmental Policy.
The system operates through teams consisting of executives from the Company, including an active participation in internal committees and commissions focused on the Environment and Occupational Safety.
The systems in place in Elekeiroz's management include the Safety, Environment and Quality System (SASSMAQ, in Portuguese) launched by the ABIQUIM as early as the year 2001, whose goal is to continuously and progressively reduce the risks involved in chemical transportation and distribution operations in Brazil. Elekeiroz, for example, will only contract with carriers who are certified by this system, through which around 800 companies engaged in the business have been assessed by independent certification agencies.
The Company also carries out a specific internal action to control the shipment of our products, conducting previous inspections on 100 percent of the vehicles used for transportation on the two industrial sites, based on a check-list containing all of the requirements of the federal and state legislation applicable to the transportation of products.
