 History

 

1894

Elekeiroz S.A. had its origin in the pharmaceutical laboratory Moura Queiroz and Co., founded by the pharmacist Luiz M. Pinto de Queiroz.

 

1909

The firm Moura Queiroz and Co. became a limited partnership by shares named L. Queiroz & Cia, the name that would later become the current name and in 1910, the first factory of Sulfuric Acid in Latin America was built.

 

1912

The Company, already transformed into Sociedade Anônima Produtos Químicos L. Queiroz, a limited liability corporation, produced and marketed acids, fertilizers, insecticides, pesticides and pharmaceuticals.

 

1923

Acquisition of the land in Várzea Paulista, where today stands one of its industrial sites.

 

1954

The first Phthalic Anhydride plant was initiated in Brazil and one year later, Ucebel Chemicals, an Elekeiroz subsidiary, started its activities producing Maleic Anhydride and Polyester Resins.

 

1960

The first Octanol factory in South America, through Elekeiroz do Nordeste, was implanted in Igarassu, Pernambuco.

 

1969

The Company opened its capital for public subscription.

 

1972

Production of Phthalic Plasticizers starts at Elekeiroz do Nordeste.

 

1982

Itaúsa - Investimentos Itaú S.A. acquired the ownership of Dr. Henrique de Toledo Lara and now holds an important share of the capital, assuming the share control of the Company in 1986.

 

1987

The Company initiated its Sulfuric Acid plant in Várzea Paulista, with a capacity of 700 ton / day and, in 1988, installed a turbine to generate electricity from steam extracted from that unit.

 

1995

Elekeiroz do Nordeste Indústria Química incorporated Produtos Químicos Elekeiroz S.A. and the following year the Company’s name was changed to Elekeiroz S.A.

 

1998

The fertilizer production unit, located in Guará - SP was sold and the Company began to devote itself exclusively to the production and marketing of intermediate chemical products.

 

2000

The Company obtained its first ISO 9001 certification for its quality management system in the development and production of polyester resins, which in following years, was extended to all industrial units.

 

2002

Elekeiroz S.A. acquired the controlling stake in Ciquine Petrochemical Company based in Camaçari - BA, indirectly becoming its controller, expanding its production capacity of Phthalic Anhydride and Plasticizers and returning to work in the manufacture of Alcohols.

 

2004

The wastewater outfall from Várzea Paulista site until CSJ treatment plant. (Companhia de Saneamento de Jundiaí)(Sanitation Company of Jundiai), starts to operate.

 

2005

The Company started the production of 2-Ethyl Hexanoic Acid in its Camaçari complex thus, adding one more product to its portfolio.

2009

The 3rd line of Plasticizers at Várzea Paulista site starts to operate.
